1959 Austin Healey Sprite 'Airport Racer'
| December 1, 2006
In the 50s and 60s when the Sports Car Club of America was starting out, they used local airports here in Southern California as a venue to hold their sports car races. This is my version of that 'Airport Racer'. When we picked up the car, it was a basket case, barely ran¦ wouldn't stop. This is the result of twenty-five months of hard work, and one understanding wife. A two year journey to not only restore a car, but to keep alive part of California's racing history. The car is basically stock with the addition of some period performance parts. Some of the features are a Judson Supercharged 948cc engine, Abarth exhaust, leather interior and Lucas dual horns. Shown here at the 2005 CAR CLASSIC at the Art Center in Pasadena, CA, where it won "Best in Class- Race Car" among a field of numerour racing Ferrari's
