1963 Chrysler Imperial Crown
| November 19, 2007
Only 13,890 original miles! Here’s the story on the car: On July 19, 1963 Ray Smythe became the owner of this 1963 Crown Imperial which was given to him by his wife as a retirement present. The car was purchased from Roy Burnett Motors in Portland, Oregon. Due to a medical problem he was not able to enjoy driving the Imperial for more than a few months.
Mr. Smythe underwent open heart surgery that same year and was the first patient to receive a "Carpentier ring" to reduce the leakage of one of his heart valves. Dr Albert Starr, who did the surgery, told him not to drive a car again and so his wife became his chauffeur but could not drive the Crown Imperial because the car was too big for her.
The car was put on blocks and a few times a year a mechanic would service the car and run the engine until it reached operating temperature, the oil was also changed twice a year.
On April 6, 1987, with only 9,260 miles on the odometer, Ray Smythe sold the car to Albert Vervloet who became the second owner. He drove the Imperial occasionally on weekends and added 4,499 miles to the original miles.
