1935 Duesenberg SSJ
| February 23, 2008
There are just not enough Duesenbergs on this site! C'MON PEOPLE! Help me and Jay educate the world to the wonders of the Duesenberg marque.
To help fill this horrible void, let me introduce (or reintroduce) you to one of the greatest and the greats.
This is the short-chassised supercharged J – otherwise known as the SSJ. Two were made. One was purchased by Gary Cooper. The other, this car (Duesenberg 2595, J-567) was loaned by Duesenberg to Clark Gable. The two SSJs were built on a shortened 125-inch wheelbases and during their reign, they were the fastest factory road cars ever produced.
During the 30s, Duesenberg advertising claimed their cars, specifically the Js and the SJs, were the best cars in the world. Their world-beating performance, their beautiful coachwork, their advanced and powerful straight-8 Lycoming engines, and their extreme opulence prove that point, even today 70 years after their final model rolled out of Duesenberg’s Indianapolis factory.
