1938 Hispano-Suiza H6C Saoutchik Xenia Coupe
| March 15, 2008
Hispano-Suiza was one of the world’s greatest antique and classic-era automobile manufactures. During WWI, Hispano also became a manufacturer of aircraft engines, in both Spain and France.
Following the war, Hispano implemented much of their aircraft engine technology in their H6 engines. All versions of the H6 featured a light-alloy, inline-6 housed in a simple ladder chassis.
This car, the Dubonnet Xenia, was built on a Hispano Suiza H6C chassis and modified it to include Andre Dubonnet's independent coil spring suspension. It is a futuristic one-of-a-kind.
Dubonnet’s Xenia Chassis was bodied by Jaques Saoutchik. The result, an avante-garde interpretation of the teardrop, was different from any other motorcar. Highlights of the design include a parallel door system and an aviation-themed interior.
