1953 Dodge Firearrow II Convertible Concept Car
| March 20, 2008
This Dodge Firearrow II was a one-off showcar designed by automotive legend Virgil Exner and built by Ghia. Four FireArrows were built between 1952 and 1954 to be shown around the country at a variety of automotive events.
Although, Chrysler made the decision to not advance the Firearrow into production, several key design elements from the concepts were later licensed to Ghia. Ghia used the ideas in their creation of the Dual Ghia – a limited edition series of luxury coupes and cabriolets produced between 1956 and 1958. Dual Ghias were popular among celebrities such as Frank Sinatra, Desi Arnez, Dean Martin, and even Ronald Reagan (whom lost his vehicle to Lyndon Johnson in a poker game). Out of the 117 Dual Ghias produced, 32 are still exist.
This Firearrow, much like the subsequent Dual Ghias, was an excellent roadcar. It is powered by the legendary V8 Hemi – as were the Dual Ghias.
Last year, this car sold at auction for $1.1m. Along with Firearrow #4 and the 1955 Firebomb convertible concept, this Firearrow is on current display at the Blackhawk Automobile Museum in Danville, CA.
