1947 Delahaye Type 135MS Franay Cabriolet
| March 20, 2008
This stylish Delahaye convertible by famed French coachbuilder Franay was first exhibited at the 1946 Paris Salon where is was awarded the Grand Prix d’Excellence.
Built to be a personal car for Prince Rainier of Monaco, the ultra low chassis carried coachwork with gracefully flowing curves and chrome bands that arched over the wings. ---- The coffin-style nose and short two-seat cabin is more than a little reminiscent of the 1936/37 Cord 812 Sportsman – don’t cha think?
In 1963, the car was selected for the “Most Beautiful Cars in the World” exhibit at the Paris Salon. It was displayed again at the Autorama retrospective in 1971. More recently this car was exhibited at Pebble Beach and a few other preeminent concourse in the United States.
This car is powered by a six-cylinder engine that displaces 3.2 liters. The car is capable of speeds exceeding 100 mph.
