1936 Delahaye Type 135 Figoni et Falaschi Coupe
| April 10, 2008
This car was built in 1936 with extravagant bodywork courtesy of Figoni et Falaschi of Paris.
A very similar “sister” car was commissioned at the same time by wealthy industrialist M. Jeancart of Paris, the man well-know for commissioning the first few examples of the Talbot Lago teardrop cars, also designed by Figoni & Falaschi. That car was officially called the “Competition Court” because of its shortened factory custom 2.7 meter wheelbase.
This car has the same design and chassis. This car was lost for decades in France and then rediscovered in the 1980s by a collector who brought the car to the United States for complete restoration. Upon the car’s restoration many things were rediscovered about this car’s history.
As it turns out, this car was special ordered to be used first for show and then for competition. This car successfully ran in the 1936 Marsailles Gran Prix and at the Franch Gran Prix.
Today it exists appearing just as it had when it rolled from the factory floor more than 70 years ago.
