| April 25, 2008
This is a 1937 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B with beautiful coachwork from Carrozzeria Touring. The car’s engine is comprised of two four-cylinder engines with the cylinders aligned in a row. Central gearing drives the overhead twin camshafts. A Roots-type supercharger and other modifications to the OHV engine aid in the production of nearly 180 horsepower.
The first 8C 2900s were built to run in the 1931 Mille Miglia. Two Grand Prix models were later entered into the Italian Grand Prix at Monza where they finished first and second. Other European racing victories soon followed, including the 1932 Targa Florio.
This car, constructed in 1937, was built for road touring. It includes the aluminum, supercharged 2.9 liter, eight-cylinder engine producing 180 horses. This particular car was awarded ‘Best of Show’ at the 1988 Pebble Beach Concours.
